Titewad powder load data.

I've been reloading with Hodgdon Titewad on my MEC Sizemaster. I get quite a bit of powder flakes 'leaking' from the charge bar area when reloading. I have a brass washer that does help with the leaking, but it doesn't stop it by any means. When I reload with Clays and Universal Clays I don't have this problem. The current Nitro 27 factory loads are loaded with an extremely dense spherical (flattened ball) powder that has been reported to be Hodgdon's "Titegroup" or a very similar non-canister version of such. It is so dense that the TGT12 green wad is used with 1 1/8oz loads!Other powders that I've tried in the past that would work well would be Clays, Titewad, Titegroup, Extra Lite, e3, Promo. Hodgdon data says a Federal 12SO wad will work (Claybuster 2100). I tried a few but there ended up with severely dished crimps. These wads work well with 1oz loads but no go on 7/8 loads. I was using Titewad powder in Top Guns and Federal Gold Medals with same result. Does anyone know of a better wad for this load.

To get a good crimp, you need a compact powder, and Tightwad works well. It makes a nice soft 1150 fps shotshell. My only gripe is that it is very prone to static electricity. TiteWad is an outstanding powder for these weights in 12 gauge. When you look at Hodgdons data remember two things: 1) Nearly any load you pick will be a good one. Just select the velocity you want for your components and you should be happy. 2) TiteWad is dense and that makes it useful in the small-capacity Winchester AAHS hulls.
