sounds like your guy got the code for the CVT replacement and instead put in a new valve body and is now surprised why there is still an issue. the failure point in these CVTs is a valve in the oil pump which unfortunately is in the guts of the cvt and would mean they would have to fully remove it, and pull it apart just to get to it.
