Their booth is in the terminal after clearing Customs and another small room with vendors like Tienda Leon. Prices are so volatile right now, it is hard to estimate a cost for you. Last month (Feb 2024) we paid $3200 cash (in pesos).

The hotel is not trying to rip you off. The law says you have to pay the 21% VAT tax whenever you pay in cash, and that includes US bills in cash. As said on a previous post, the ONLY way not to pay the VAT is a) to be a non-resident and b) pay with CC or wire transfer from abroad.

The area around Vincente Lopez park is lovely, the street Montevideo, Alvear, Quintana, Pacheco de Melo, Rodriquez Pena, Posadas, Libertad and anytime those streets cross.
