I'm just going to say it: the Mossberg 500 12 ga is just a better shotgun than modern 870's and Benelli Nova/SuperNovas. It is a fantastic, robust, proven design. The thumb safety on the tang effortlessly slides off when mounting the gun. There are so many accessories and various spare barrels available that don't cost several hundred dollars.

Easy to get parts for and a lot of add ons, accessories, modifications, upgrades, etc etc available. Also I think easy to clean and maintain. Haven't used a Nova but from reading the posts - people either love them or hate them, not much inbetween. When the Nova came out I bought one and sold my 835. I personally prefer the Nova for a few reasons. First, its lighter. Second, I feel it has a better action, and for me it is easier to cycle.
