I have 11. I feel like anything 8 or above is probably fine. It doesn't matter so much how many things you do so much as what you've gotten out of them. Yea you will pass 15 soon, it's not enough. I have 14, I would say 12/15 are legit, 1 is kind of fluffy, and 1 just has my hobbies.

They don't do anything with the work/activities for verification. Usually, the contacts aren't contacted by AMCAS. Occasionally, individual schools will contact the listed person to verify an activity (particularly if the listed amount of hours is egregious or it looks fishy). But usually activities aren't really verified for most people.

Activities are based on the honor system. It's highly unlikely they will call, but if you they do and you are caught lying, you can probably kiss going to medical school goodbye. I believe some schools might either do random checks on some applicants, or they will contact activities if something seems fishy.
