Tank Ryze build. Mid Builds. TL;DR: be tankier = live longer = more EQ. Final Build: Crown, Mejai's, Lucidity boots, Fimbulwinter, Demonic Embrace, Rylai's. A pseudo-tank Ryze build if you're tired of getting blown up by everybody. You can survive a lot longer in fights while still dishing out damage.

Even with the tank builds, you still get bursted. Zed pops, Akali peels, and battle mages that scales with HP still gets the best of him. AH and Mana items for mages is so scarce right now.
