Moonveil remains one of the better weapons in the game too. It's basically better than using actual spells 4 times out of 5. People saying it's been "nerfed to hell" are exaggerating. You will literally use its ash more than your will spells. It's still one of the best choices for an INT/DEX build.

They always need another random stat for all the “good” katanas so you gotta commit to a sword, not even a build.You can go for more status effects by putting a cold katana in your left hand and still use the weapon art of the moonveil. The L1 power stancing will build bleed faster and having the cold will help. Status effects scale well into the higher NG+. Go like a keen (I believe that’s the right one) should scale with int/dex. Moonveil🤮. Naga - lower damage, longer range. Uchi - higher damage, lower range. For powerstance, the way the katana combo works doesn't give you a ton of benefit from the nagas extra length. It's one of those weapons that's a noob trap, imo. People get stuck on using the ranged attack as a crutch, while the actual katana moveset is extremely versatile and is, in tandem with the ranged attack, the key to being really skilled with it. In other words, it's a low skill floor, high skill ceiling weapon. Compared to all katanas that require some Intelligence investment, the moonveil possesses the highest magic damage scaling and requirements. Update: Comparing to Unsheathe, I don't really notice much or any difference in the recovery time, so the slower recovery thing might be a red herring.
