You might do a search hear on Marlin lever actions . yes first production guns used a steel receiver with two tapped holes for attaching a separate scope mount.

There is no reference in the section on Model 56's regarding a "deluxe" version. Originally with a 7 round magazine. There is a reference made to a "Clipper King" model that had special markings and packaging - 1959! That is not to say that a one off custom could have been factory ordered.
