Hey j-f, You don't need to take the radio apart to fix the battery issue. All you have to do is take the battery cassette apart & remove the small charging circuit board. There is a red & black wire soldered on the board that you need to de-solder & solder on a charging/power plug & then you will be able to use a LiFe Tx battery.
